Type G Duoprop propeller, suitable for the DPH OutDrive...
* Type G propeller sets can be replaced by either type H propeller sets, or individually sold type G front and rear propellers.
Volvo Penta has decided to do a “variable” replacement of the Type G propeller sets to either a corresponding Type H propeller set, or to a separate front and rear individual propeller. E.g. a G4 set will be replaced to either a H4 set, or a G4 front plus a G4 rear propeller.
There are a few things to consider when changing from Type G to a Type H propeller on a DPH drive. First of all it is not possible to mix propeller types on the same drive.
Type H propellers have a longer hub and the two propeller types will not fit together. As a consequence of the longer hub there is a new propeller cone for the Type H propellers.
Make sure to order propeller cone 23000185 when changing from G to H. Also, in a twin installation, propellers of the same type should be used both on the starboard and the port drive.
The two propeller types have a similar design, but they are not exactly alike and hence there can be small differences in performance between the two. Compared to Type G, Type H has slightly larger blade area and the stainless steel material means stiffer propeller blades.
The combination of a 3-blade front and a 4-blade rear propeller, is the key to the tremendous grip in the water. The new generation DP propellers has been specially developed to handle the tremendous torque and power from the D4 and D6 engines. Performance is outstanding and the special nickel-aluminium-bronze alloy complete with full electric isolation ensures minimum growth and excellent corrosion resistance.
There are many benefits of having a Volvo Penta Duoprop fitted.....
- Twin counter rotating propellers bite hard to produce unparalleled thrust, straight and true tracking - even in reverse - plus faster acceleration on the plane.
- The counter rotating twin propellers eliminates the lateral forces existing in conventional single prop sterndrives. That means the engine’s energy and power is concentrated on driving the boat forward - not sideways.
- Duoprop provides up to 30 % faster acceleration and produces a top speed some 5 % faster than any conventional single propeller system - without increasing the fuel consumption. At partial load you can expect between 10–12 % lower fuel consumption.
- Whether at high speed, making sharp turns, or when docking in a crowded marina – the grip is there. Duoprop also reduces the boat’s tendency to roll.
- A better grip in the water means getting up onto the plane faster. And staying there at low revs.
- Duoprop produces lower vibration and noise levels due to the fact that shock pulses are distributed over more blades. Shock absorbing rubber bushing secures the drivetrain service life. With its counter rotating propellers and unique blade geometry, they are almost cavitation free.
- The special high strength aluminum alloy and the squeeze casting process make them stronger and more durable than traditional die cast propellers.
